Administrative Assistant

Since 1939, The Allen Company, Inc., has been providing road construction and asphalt paving services in the Central Kentucky area.

Conveniently located in the Hamburg area of Lexington, The Allen Company staffs a team of engineers, project managers and estimators who need your help with day-to-day administrative tasks!
We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced Administrative Assistant. The successful candidate will have an Associate’s Degree (preferred) or minimum of 3 years of experience in an administrative position, preferably in a construction (or engineering) firm.

As an Administrative Assistant you will:

  • Assist project managers and other members of the construction staff with day-to-day administrative tasks.
  • Assist with preparation and distribution of subcontracts.
  • Prepare construction invoices and distribute as needed.
  • Assist with preparation of construction submittal packages.
  • Track and ensure subcontract insurance compliance.
  • Prepare and distribute various reports as needed.
  • Perform general clerical office duties, such as filing, data entry, copying, and other duties as assigned

 

To qualify you must have:

  • Associate’s Degree (preferred) or minimum or 3 years of administrative experience (construction office experience preferred).
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Well organized and able to meet deadlines with accuracy.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with construction accounting software preferred.

Preventative Maintenance Technician

The Allen Company is seeking a qualified, hardworking dependable person for an equipment greaser position in the Central Kentucky area. This position requires a minimum CDL B with HAZMAT and Tanker Endorsements.

Responsibilities:
  • Mechanical work on Heavy equipment, machines and any road equipment.
  • Perform general maintenance, including greasing, fueling, and washing as needed.
  • All duties assigned

Requirements
  • Minimum class B CDL with HAZ-MAT & Tanker endorsement.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (technical school a plus).
  • The desire and ability to learn.

Construction Laborer

The Allen Company, Inc., is looking for an experienced, highly motivated construction laborer. The construction laborer will complete general labor duties as directed by their Foreman/Superintendent. This person must have reliable transportation, must be able to arrive to work on time and represent The Allen Company, Inc., in a positive manner and interact well with the traveling public.

In this position you will be responsible for:

  • Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones.
  • Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
  • Dig ditches or trenches, back fill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, and rakes.
  • Operate jackhammers and drills to break up concrete or pavement.
  • Shovel cement and other materials into portable cement mixers; and mix, pour, and spread concrete.
  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
  • Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications.
  • All other duties assigned.

 
Requirements:

Heavy Equipment Operator

The Allen Company is seeking an experienced, energetic, and safety-oriented heavy equipment operator to join our team and safely and efficiently operate a variety of equipment. Operators should be experienced in operating heavy equipment, such as, small to medium sized dozers, backhoes, rollers, excavators, articulating trucks, pavers, graders and/or milling machine, as directed by the Foreman/Superintendent.

Heavy Equipment Operator Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate various pieces of large equipment in accordance with company procedures and safety regulations.
  • Ensure proper operation of equipment by performing regular checks on their functionality.
  • Document regular maintenance checks to maintain adequate records of equipment performance.
  • Provide preventative maintenance to ensure equipment is safe and operating properly.
  • Regularly clean equipment to preserve its quality and functionality.
  • Perform minor repairs on equipment issues.
  • Report needs for larger repairs to the appropriate parties.
  • Abide by all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as all company safety procedures.
  • Commit to the overall safety of the work environment by always taking extra precautions to work with the utmost care and consideration.
  • Must adhere to PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) Policy.

 
Heavy Equipment Operator Requirements and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of proper operation of heavy equipment as well as safety standards.
  • Ability to maintain, inspect, clean, and occasional minor repair.
  • Overtime and weekend availability is required.
  • Attention to detail and situational awareness to maintain the safety of the work environment.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Punctuality and great attendance is a must.
  • Be able to function outside year-round.
  • Physical ability to lift 50+ pounds.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug & alcohol screening.

CDL Driver WITH Tanker Endorsement – Road Construction
